Remote Access

Serebra Learning Corporation
Training Provided by Serebra Learning Corporation This is the fourth course in a five-part series on Building Cisco Remote Access Networks 1.0 (BCRAN 1.0). This series teaches students how to build a remote access network to interconnect central sites to branch offices and home office/telecommuters. In addition, controlling access to a central site, as well as how to maximize bandwidth utilization over remote links is covered. This part in the series will help students learn about configuring Frame Relay and backup connections.

Description

This is the last course in a five-part series on Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting 4.0 (CIT 4.0). CIT 4.0 teaches students how to baseline and troubleshoot an environment using Cisco routers and switches for multiprotocol client hosts and servers. This is an advanced series that shows networking professionals troubleshooting processes on Cisco Routers and Catalyst Switches. This course will cover Frame Relay WANs and ISDN BRI.

Audience

This series is aimed at network systems analysts and maintenance personnel responsible for troubleshooting network problems. This course will help candidates prepare for the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) exam 640-506.

Prerequisites

(Currently no course prerequisite information)

Objective

  • Use Cisco IOS commands and problem isolation to identify and solve common WAN and Frame Relay problems.
  • Diagnose and correct ISDN BRI problems using CISCO ISO commands by using problem isolation techniques.

Topics Include

Unit 1: Frame Relay WANs

  • Match the diagnostic show commands with their functions.
  • Match the debug commands with their functions.
  • Sequence the steps to isolate Frame Relay problems in WANs.
  • Select the problems associated with intermittent connectivity.
  • Select the problems associated with Frame Relay connection failure as load increases.
  • Select the problems associated with connection failure at a particular time of the day.
  • Select the problems associated with a WAN connection failing after a period of normal operation.
  • Select the problems associated with a WAN connection that never worked.
  • Perform the steps to isolate a faculty router interface card.
  • Perform the steps to isolate a faulty CSU/DSU.
  • Perform the steps to find increasing input errors.
  • Sequence the steps to isolate a cable EMI problem.
  • Perform the steps to isolate hardware failure in serial link.
  • Perform the steps to isolate a misconfigured Frame Relay switch.
  • Perform the steps to correct a misconfigured Frame Relay interface.
  • Perform the steps to reconfigure a routing protocol.
  • Perform the steps to isolate buffer availability problems.
  • Sequence the steps to correct a connection problem when users cannot connect to resources over a new Frame Relay link.
  • Sequence the steps to correct a Frame Relay timing problem.
  • Sequence the steps to correct a congested serial line.
  • Perform the steps to troubleshoot a Frame Relay interface.
  • Perform the steps to troubleshoot a Frame Relay point-to-multipoint configuration error.

Unit 2: ISDN BRI

  • Match the show commands with their functions.
  • Match the debug commands with their functions.
  • Sequence the steps to isolate ISDN problems in WANs.
  • Select the problems associated with an ISDN router that is not dialing.
  • Select the problems associated with the ISDN dial not going through.
  • Select the problems associated when the ISDN connection has no communication with the remote router.
  • Select the problems indicating second B channel function misconfiguration.
  • Select the problems associated with the line disconnecting.
  • Sequence the steps of the BRI activation process.
  • Perform the steps to correct an interface being down.
  • Perform the steps to troubleshoot Layer 1 activation problems.
  • Match the ISDN Layer 2 processes with their definitions.
  • Perform the steps to troubleshoot a dialer list problem.
  • Perform the steps to isolate and correct a misconfigured dialer hold-queue.
  • Perform the steps to correct a misconfigured dialer load threshold.
  • Perform the steps to correct a misconfigured dialer idle-timeout.
  • Match the q931 frame values or information elements with their respective definitions.
  • Perform the steps to correct misconfigured SPIDs.
  • Perform the steps to correct a speed setting mismatch.
  • Perform the steps to correct a missing dialer group command.
  • Perform the steps to correct a misconfigured BRI dialer map.
  • Perform the steps to correct a CHAP misconfiguration.
  • Perform the steps to configure PPP encapsulation.
  • Perform the steps to correct the route to a remote network.
  • Perform the steps to correct missing or misconfigured access list.
  • Perform the steps to troubleshoot a Layer 1 channel problem.
  • Perform the steps to troubleshoot a Layer 2 logical connection problem.
